چکیده
Abstract Tropical cyclones (TCs) with genesis in the Coral Sea present significant hazards to coastal regions their surroundings. In addition, erratic nature of TC tracks is not well understood this region. Therefore, study grouped over last fifty years based on K-means clustering maximum wind-weighted centroids. This was done order extract valuable new cyclone power, track curvature and location related information from historical records predict behaviour light a changing climate. variance (sinuosity) were assessed. Three well-defined clusters identified, results showed differing predominant directions movement by cluster. Track sinuosity shown increase east west. Only one cluster statistically trend (decreasing) frequency. The power dissipation index (PDI) used reveal that two have diverging trends for PDI post-2004. Based intensity, only (towards equator). All these findings demonstrated clear between-cluster hazard show discovered southwest Pacific are manifest or consistent across all clusters.

Tropical cyclone genesis over the south China sea
The South China Sea (SCS) is among areas in the Northwest Pacific most frequented by tropical cyclones (TCs) with intensity reaching a tropical storm or stronger. It is also an area of significant TC genesis. In this study, TC genesis in SCS and its monsoonal variability for 1948–2003 are analyzed. Altogether, in May–September (southwest monsoon period) 157 TC geneses have occurred north of 12°...
متن کاملAn environmentally forced tropical cyclone hazard model
A physics-based statistical stochastic system is developed for estimating the long-term hazard of rare, high impact landfall events globally from ensembles of synthetic tropical cyclones. There are three components representing the complete storm lifetime: an index-based genesis model, a beta-advection track model and an autoregressive intensity model. All three components depend upon the local...
متن کاملJMA’s Five-day Tropical Cyclone Track Forecast
Since 22 April 2009, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued five-day tropical cyclone (TC) track forecasts. This paper introduces these forecasts, including the method used, interpretation of the results obtained, forecast cases and future challenges. One of the forecast’s unique aspects is its determination of the radius of a 70% probability circle (PC) using the level of forecast un...
متن کاملTropical cyclone track forecasting techniques: A review
Delivering accurate cyclone forecasts in time is of key importance when it comes to saving human lives and reducing economic loss. Difficulties arise because the geographical and climatological characteristics of the various cyclone formation basins are not similar, which entails that a single forecasting technique cannot yield reliable performance in all ocean basins. For this reason, global f...
